Getting Here...

Once you decide to travel, Edinburgh is easy and surprisingly cheap to get to. Plenty of budget airlines fly to Edinburgh and Waverley train station serves most of the UK. If you book in advance there are plenty of good ticket deals.

By Air

Easyjet Ryanair

Edinburgh Airport is on the outskirts of the city, but there is a frequent bus service to Waverley Station. As well as the scheduled airlines, most of the low cost airlines fly to Edinburgh, and fares can be as low as £21 to London. For more information, check the following airlines:

RyanAir
EasyJet

You can find the nearest airport to fly to Edinburgh by going to the BAA
page and clicking on Destinations.

By Train

GNER Virgin Scotrail

With Edinburgh's main train station - Waverley within walking distance, the train is an ideal way to travel. Edinburgh is served by routes down the East and West coast from GNER and Virgin respectively, both of whom offer regular return fares from London below £40. Look on their web sites for special offers - we've found return fares as low as £10 to London in January and February. Sometimes it may be cheaper to book two singles. First Class can also be surprisingly cheap - under £60 return from London.

GNER runs high speed trains up the East Coast
VIRGIN runs slightly slower trains up the West Coast

Or find the best route from any station on the TrainLine.

By Car

Drive to Edinburgh

The Royal Mile is a pedestrian zone and the centre of Edinburgh is not designed for driving. There is currently parking available in New Street and Bristo Square - both about five minutes walk away, but both are due to be redeveloped. Edinburgh is excellent for walking, so we'd recommend leaving you car behind.

Edinburgh Travel - local options

It really is easy to get about in Edinburgh, whether on foot, by bus or taxi. The city is very well served with buses and over 30 bus routes stop within 200 metres of the flat. After 9.30 in the morning Lothian Buses offer a day travel pass for only £2.30 for travel on any of their routes within Edinburgh, or you can buy weekly passes from their offices. Local trains from Waverley can take you further afield, and a wide range of bus tours can be booked a few hundred metres away at the MacTours office in the Royal Mile.
