Find out about Edinburgh

If you are planning to bring your laptop or PDA with you to Edinburgh and want to keep in touch with email or access the web, our centrally located apartment provides FREE, unlimited, high speed Broadband Internet Access.

The apartment uses the most popular standard for wireless networks worldwide - 802.11b technology, also known as "Wi-Fi". It's standard in most new laptops which are promoted with the Centrino logo, and in Apple portables containing an "Airport". You can also access the wireless Internet connection by using a PC Card adaptor in your laptop.

In addition, we've provided a wired Ethernet socket for users who prefer to use a cabled network connection.

Both methods of connection are connected to a dedicated 512kbps ADSL line, which provides a permanently "ON" link to the Internet

The use of the network is totally free for anyone staying in the apartment. There are no passwords, log-in requirements or usage limits - simply connect and use it.

The Internet connection can also be used for international Voice over IP telephone services, such as Net2Phone, Skype or Go2Call. If you sign up to these in advance and bring a PC headset with you, they will allow you to use your laptop for low cost international phone calls. For more information on how to make phone calls over the Internet, click here or on the Phone Calls button.

The wireless access equipment is fully Wi-Fi certified to provide the optimum compatibility.
