Scottish Tourist Board Four Star Self Catering Accommodation

Our spacious and elegantly furnished, self catering Edinburgh holiday apartment is situated in Borthwick's Close on the Royal Mile in the heart of Edinburgh's historic old town, only a few hundred yards from St Giles' Cathedral and the Mercat Cross which marks the centre of the City. It's been awarded four stars by the Scottish Tourist board, signifying the level of comfort and amenities.

The flat is on the second floor of a seventeenth century tenement, directly behind the Festival Fringe Office. It has been refurbished to a high standard, but still retains many traditional features including wooden window shutters, window seats, high ceilings and plaster cornices. We've tried to complement the character of Edinburgh as a World Heritage Site.

Accommodation consists of an entrance hall, double bedroom, single/twin bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and light, spacious lounge with a view to the East over Salisbury Crags. We've furnished it with everything you'll need to feel as if it's home from home. Its central location is within easy walking distance of Edinburgh's most famous attractions, with Edinburgh Castle at one end of the Royal Mile and Holyrood Palace at the other. Less than five minutes walk from Waverley Station, Edinburgh's tour bus stand and Princes Street, it provides the perfect location from which to explore this charming City.

For the business traveller, visiting academic, or those who bring their laptop or PDA with them, we've installed an Ethernet Internet connection and a Wi-Fi certified 802.11b wireless access point giving you free, unlimited 2MB broadband Internet access for the duration of your stay. It makes it a very attractive alternative to the usual Edinburgh Hotel.

What to do in Edinburgh

There's always something to do in Edinburgh. It's not just a City steeped in history, although there's plenty of that about, but is famous for its festivals and knowing how to have a good time. It's a very compact and friendly city that lets you walk or hop on a bus to savour its delights.

Literary Edinburgh

Edinburgh is full of stories and characters. Real life has seen the drama of Mary Queen of Scots, the Stuart Kings, Deacon Brodie and the bodysnatchers Burke and Hare. You can still walk around the same streets that they trod, or follow the fictional characters they inspired, such as Robert Louis Stevenson's Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde or more recently Ian Rankin's Inspector Rebus. A range of guided tours will open up the literary side of the City, or you can explore yourself, following your favourite novels through the wynds and alleys.

Festivals

The festival year starts with Hogmanay, which has been hailed as the "Best Festival in the World". The atmosphere continues throughout the year with the Science Festival, Jazz Festival, International and Fringe Festivals amongst others. We listed all we know on our Events Calendar. Use this and our List of Edinburgh Web Links to help plan your stay in the City.

Further Afield

It's quick to get out from the centre if you want to explore further afield. Whether you're looking to try a range of golf courses, or a have a penchant for activity holidays in the surrounding Lothian countryside, a base in the centre of Edinburgh is an ideal place from which to explore.
